With just a month to go before Orlando chooses a new mayor, businessman and veteran Paul Paulson named Elaine Sarlo as communications director on Monday afternoon.
Sarlo, who served as a field coordinator for Americans for Prosperity, also worked on the campaigns of Gov. Rick Scott, Agriculture Secretary Adam Putnam, and state Rep. Rene Plasencia. She’s currently president of the UCF College Republicans, whose membership numbers have doubled in recent months.
“Elaine is a master communicator and very skilled tactician,” Paulson said in a statement. “She knows how to reach voters and engage the public. We are excited to welcome her to #TeamPaulson.”
Paulson has spearheaded a substantial self-funded campaign in the last month, with television ads, billboards, and a large get-out-the-vote effort. Over the weekend, his campaign opened a “Better Call Paul” hotline for voter outreach. The hotline takes its name from “Better Call Saul,” the TV show spin-off from “Breaking Bad.”
Incumbent Buddy Dyer has also stepped up grassroots efforts in his bid for a fifth term. He expects to launch an expansive communications operation of his own in the coming weeks.
Medical school student “Sunshine” Linda Grund is also running. Election day is November 3.
