Jax whistleblower drops the dime on wayward motor vehicle inspectors

jacksonville

A time-honored tradition: the anonymous whistleblower letter. A recent one here in Jacksonville led to a shakeup in the Animal Care Division, which had the ancillary effect, as revealed in Monday’s NICE Committee meeting, of leading to (according to one local) an epidemic of dead dogs decomposing in the streets of Northwest Jacksonville.

Now, someone who purports to be a “City of Jacksonville employee” is attempting to wreak the same havoc on another obscure corner of city government: the Motor Vehicle Inspection division on Jessie Street.

“I am aware of how some divisions are not closely regulated and over the years the employees in these division have become brazen enough to do as they feel without any concern as to how they are cheating the city out of funds,” the whistleblower wrote.

“The employees there are a tight knit group that hardly ever work full days and/or weeks, yet the supervisors allow them to be paid as if they have. They even go as far as to allow employees to take vacations without charging them for the time as long as everyone there does so and keeps their mouths shut,” continues the dispatch, which calls the practice “deplorable” and “actually theft.”

“It makes one wonder as to how thorough their inspections of our school buses, taxis, and city vehicles are actually being performed.”

Florida Politics has reached out to the office of Mayor Lenny Curry for comment on this story and the charges made in the letter. Updates will be provided as response is received.
