On Friday, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry‘s office released details on the next round of Community Conversations, first mentioned during the HRO Community Conversation this week.
They will be related to the Jax Journey, and the first will address “youth violence” in Jacksonville.
“During my campaign, I talked with hundreds of people throughout every corner of this city. And one of the most common concerns that I heard from many is violence, which is why public safety is a top priority for my administration,” Curry said in a prepared statement.
Indeed, youth violence was an unfortunate leitmotif during the campaign. From the incident on a school bus on Jacksonville’s Westside hours before a mayoral debate to Curry’s outreach in the Grand Park neighborhood, Curry became increasingly aware of the need to stem the tide.
That was a fundamental driver behind the One City One Jacksonville theme of his administration.
The Jax Journey Community Conversations begin Feb. 11 at Florida State College Jacksonville’s North Campus.
Sheriff Mike Williams and Duval County School Superintendent Nikolai Vitti are expected to participate.
