Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry has asserted that Google Fiber would have a positive effect upon Jacksonville. An executive from a local Internet company agrees.
Nick Tulip, a director for Web.com, wrote Curry an email in December.
“Having worked in technology all my life I can assure you there is no better service out there,” Tulip writes. “I’ve got friends who left Jacksonville in order to take advantage of Google Fiber for their startups in other cities.
“The current service providers have not provided a decent service both in terms of utility and price and with Google Fiber will come many technology startups, which will benefit this city.”
Curry responded Wednesday that “access to quality and high-speed Internet service is crucial to ensuring that our city is uniquely positioned for continued economic growth, and I want those startups you mentioned to stay and thrive right here on the First Coast. While we’re still in the early stages, I’m excited about the possibilities Google Fiber represents for Jacksonville, and I really appreciate your support.
“In the days ahead my team and I will continue collaborating with Google to solidify this opportunity to build a fiber-optic network in Jacksonville.”
