In an exclusive telephone interview with Reggie Gaffney, the Jacksonville city councilman denied the speculation that had swirled last week, saying “none of that’s true.”
Contrary to speculation, he had not been served a subpoena in relation to the Corrine Brown/Von Alexander investigation.
Nor, as some had said, had he been served a target letter relative to that investigation.
In fact, Gaffney reminded this outlet that he had a falling out with Congresswoman Brown some time back, as evidenced by her endorsing his opponent in the very fractious District 7 race.
Gaffney, out of town last week, saw the speculation as an attempt to “tarnish [his] decent name,” saying he had “no idea where the [rumor] came from.”
“I’m more concerned about the 3-year-old getting shot on the Eastside,” Gaffney said, than “getting caught up in gossip” around Corrine Brown.
Gaffney cited his work in recent weeks on the Eastside “knocking on doors, fixing crime issues” as his primary preoccupation.
Gaffney, who was close to Brown at one point, clearly cherishes his distance from her now that scandal is rocking her political career, in what she calls a politically motivated “tangential investigation.”
