Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry has a packed schedule for the first day of the 2016 Legislative Session, truly paying the cost to be the boss.
With a pension tax plan needing approval from lawmakers, Curry is bringing his A-game to the State Capitol; indeed, his phone calls started at 8 a.m., as his driver ferried his Tahoe SUV down Interstate 10.
His first call, to Councilman Al Ferraro, was followed by calls to former mayor Jake Godbold, and Travis Cummings.
A 10 a.m. meeting with Southern Strategy Group, one of the city’s three lobbying groups, was to be followed by the State of the State, then a meeting with Sen. Travis Hutson, the recipient of a donation from Curry’s high-powered Build Something That Lasts PAC in December.
Meetings with Sens. David Simmons, Wilton Simpson, Jack Latvala, and Joe Negron are scheduled for the afternoon, along with meetings with state Reps. Charles McBurney and Cummings.
There’s also a 15-minute block with Rick Scott.
By the time Curry gets to the Governor’s Reception at 6 p.m, a libation might be in order after a day of buttonholing Florida’s power brokers.
