The state’s court clerks are expected to highlight the need for a funding boost during the Senate’s criminal and civil justice appropriations committee.
The Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers is scheduled to make a presentation to the subcommittee at 9 a.m., Thursday. The presentation will focus on the results of a study, which shows a financial need for more funding.
The court system has experienced cuts in recent years. The state’s courts generate about $1 billion a year, but a significant portion is spent on non-court programs and services. Courts across the state have made cuts to make up for a deficit in a state trust fund that feeds their budgets.
The Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers are scheduled to discuss the constraints put on the court system because of that deficit, plus options for addressing the financial woes in the long- and short-term.
