President Barack Obama will visit Jacksonville, Florida, in a trip that’s sure to re-spark debate about the successes and failures of the economic stimulus package that passed during his first weeks in office.
The president will tour a lithium-ion battery plant funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The legislation passed despite overwhelming Republican opposition.
The White House says Obama on Friday will visit Saft, a company that manufactures high-tech batteries. Saft won a $95.5 million grant through the stimulus and matched that amount to build the plant.
Last month, Obama visited Detroit to tout the auto industry recovery. Obama economic adviser Jeff Zients says the president will use the Jacksonville trip to “talk about the tough choices he faced early in his first term to right America’s course.”
