The office of U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham released footage of the freshman lawmaker zooming over her Panhandle congressional district on Monday as part of a signature Graham family “Workday,” this time with the Air Force in Congressional District 2’s Tyndall Air Force Base.
Graham sat in the cockpit of a T-38 trainer aircraft, traveling the North Florida gulf coast from Panama City Beach – where the city’s world-famous college vacationers milieu is in full force this week – down to the lower-key St. George Island and back.
“It’s Spring Break right now, so I hope we gave some of those on the beach a little bit of a show,” said a windswept Graham after returning to the safety of the ground.
Graham has focused on veterans’ issues in her brief career in the House, introducing bills to help veterans transition into agricultural careers, and budget appropriations in the National Defense Authorization Act among others. She also sits on the Armed Forces committee, a plum assignment for a first-term House Democrat.
Veterans make up a key demographic of her sprawling 2nd Congressional District, which takes in Tyndall AFB and is home to tens of thousands of veterans.
Graham will likely be the final representative of the 14-county district, as changes mandated by the Florida Supreme Court are set to shift much of her Democratic-leaning Tallahassee base into a newly redrawn 5th District.
