Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry was a strong Marco Rubio supporter. However, he said Wednesday, Florida voters emphatically made their decision.
“I’m proud to have supported my friend,” Curry said, yet “the people spoke.” For Curry “it’s time to move on,” he said to a press gaggle, reinforcing comments he made Monday at a Jacksonville Marco Rubio Meet and Greet event.
“The voters disagreed with me,” Curry said.
Curry, as he did Monday, reiterated that he is a “conservative” and that he will support a candidate who most closely aligns with that. And that candidate will be the Republican nominee … even if it’s Trump.
In what he said was an “irony in the date,” Curry meets with Trump Florida Co-Chairwoman Susie Wiles Wednesday afternoon.
On this same day, of course, Rick Scott endorsed Trump.
The meeting, Curry said, was “scheduled long ago” and is “not a Trump meeting.”
City Hall observers will look for Curry in a Make America Great Again hat in the future, as he endeavors to unify a fractious party behind a nominee no one credibly predicted in June.
Of course, some will note, people said the same about Curry when he launched his mayoral race.
