Rick Scott makes 17 appointments to university boards

University (Large)

On Thursday, Gov. Rick Scott announced 17 appointments to a variety of Florida university boards. Each of the following are subject to Florida Senate approval.

Florida International University Board of Trustees

Scott began by naming Marc Sarnoff to the Florida International University Board of Trustees.

Sarnoff, 55, of Miami, is an attorney with Shutts and Bowen. He previously was a Commissioner of the City of Miami from 2006 to 2015. Sarnoff succeeds Mayi de la Vega for a term ending Jan. 6, 2021.

Florida Gulf Coast University Board of Trustees

Scott next made two appointments and one reappointment to the Florida Gulf Coast University Board of Trustees.

Darleen Cors, 74, of Naples, is the president of the Naples Community Church Board of Trustees. She is a member of the League Club Inc. Cors previously was vice president for development of Capital Caring and president of the Junior League of Northern Virginia. She is appointed to a vacant seat for a term ending Jan. 6, 2021.

Carol Moore, 54, of Naples, is co-founder and former chairwoman and director of the Royal Palm Academy. Moore received her bachelor’s degree from Boston College. She succeeds Richard Klass for a term ending Jan. 6, 2021.

Russell Priddy, 60, of Immokalee, is a co-manager with JB Ranch. He is a member of the Lee County Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees and was a Collier County Planning Commissioner. Priddy is reappointed for a term ending Jan. 6, 2021.

Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees

Scott then announced the appointment of Dr. Malcolm Dorman and the reappointment of Abdol Moabery to the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees.

Dorman, 73, of West Palm Beach, is an attending cardiovascular surgeon at Malcom J. Dorman M.D. He is a clinical professor at Nova Southeastern University and a member of the Florida Atlantic University Medical Advisory Board. Dorman succeeds Julius Teske for a term ending Jan. 6, 2021.

Moabery, 48, of Delray Beach, is founder, president and chief executive officer of GA Telesis LLC. He is chairman of the scholarship committee for the Wings Club Foundation and is chairman of the strategic planning committee and the athletic subcommittee at Florida Atlantic University. Moabery is reappointed for a term beginning ending Jan. 6, 2021.

University of South Florida Board of Trustees

Scott announced two appointments and one reappointment to the University of South Florida Board of Trustees.

Michael Carrere, 66, of Tampa, is a former chief executive officer of Lykes Brothers Inc. He previously was a member of the St. Mary’s School board of trustees and president of the Boy Scouts of America Gulf Ridge Council. Carrere succeeds Debbie Sembler and is appointed for a term ending Jan. 6, 2021.

James Stikeleather, 62, of Tampa, is the chief innovation officer of Dell Inc. He succeeds Stephen Mitchell and is appointed for a term ending Jan. 6, 2021.

John Ramil, 60, of Tampa, is president and chief executive officer of TECO Energy Inc. He previously was a member of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center and is a past chairman of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. Ramil is reappointed for a term ending Jan. 6, 2021.

Florida Polytechnic University Board of Trustees

Scott announced three appointments and one reappointment to the Florida Polytechnic University Board of Trustees.

Rear Adm. Philip Dur, 71, of Destin, retired in 2005 as a vice president of the Northrop Grumman Corp. and president of Northrop Grumman Ship Systems. He previously served in the Navy from 1965 to 1995. As a member of the Navy, Dur served in a variety of roles including Assistant Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, director of the Navy Strategy Division, commander of both the Battle Force Sixth Fleet and the Cruiser Destroyer Group Eight, Defense Attaché to the government of France, Executive Assistant and Senior Naval Aide to the Secretary of the Navy, Commanding Officer of the USS Yorktown (CG-48), and a member of the National Security Council during President Reagan’s administration. During his time of military service, he received the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, the French “Ordre Nationale du Merite,” Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, and the Meritorious Service Medal. Dur is appointed to a vacant seat for a term ending June 30, 2021.

Henry McCance, 73, of Lake Wales, is former chief executive officer of Greylock Partners. He is a member of the board of directors for both the Lake Wales Charter School Foundation and New Profit Inc. McCance is appointed to a vacant seat for a term ending June 30, 2021.

Clifford “Cliff” Otto, 66, of Lakeland, is chief executive officer of Saddle Creek Logistics Services. He is a member of the Florida Polytechnic University Foundation Board of Trustees and treasurer of the International Warehouse and Logistics Association. Otto is appointed to a vacant seat for a term ending June 30, 2021.

Mark Bostick, 61, of Lake Wales, is president of Comcar Industries. He is a member of the University of Florida Shands Cancer Center Advisory Board, the Tulane University Business School Council, Winter Haven Hospital Board, and founding chairman of the Board of Trustees for All Saints’ Academy. Previously, he was appointed by then-Gov. Bob Martinez to the Governor’s Commission on Reform and Education and served on the Florida Taxation and Budget Reform Commission. Bostick is reappointed for a term ending June 30, 2020.

Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University Board of Trustees

Scott announced the appointment of Belvin Perry Jr. to the Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University Board of Trustees.

Perry Jr., 66, of Orlando, is an attorney with Morgan and Morgan PA. He is a member of the Florida A&M University College of Law Board of Visitors and the 100 Black Men of Orlando Inc. Perry was chief judge in Florida’s 9th Judicial Circuit. He succeeds Belinda Shannon for a term ending Jan. 6, 2021.

University North Florida Board of Trustees

Finally, Scott announced three appointments to the University of North Florida Board of Trustees.

Wilfredo Gonzalez, 72, of Jacksonville, is district director of the U.S. Small Business Administration. He was a member of the Quality Education for Minorities Board of Directors. Gonzalez succeeds Margaret Pappas for a term ending Jan. 6, 2020.

Kevin Hyde, 53, of Jacksonville, is a partner with Foley and Lardner LLP. He was president of the Jacksonville City Council and chairman of the Florida Bar Labor Employment Section. Hyde succeeds Myron Pincomb for a term ending Jan. 6, 2021.

Stephen Joost, 53, of Jacksonville, is a partner of Firehouse Subs. He was president of the Jacksonville City Council. Joost succeeds William Lovett for a term ending Jan. 6, 2021.
