On Monday night’s, “Daily Show,” host Trevor Noah asked Democratic National Committee Chairman and South Florida U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz to explain whether she really “cockblocked” U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders‘ presidential aspirations.
Over the past year, the DNC chairwoman has often been criticized, especially among Sanders supporters who think she has supported Hillary Clinton all along in the campaign, beginning with the relatively small number of debates proposed when the election cycle commenced.
“A lot of people feel that Bernie Sanders has been, and I’m going to paraphrase or really, quote Twitter rather, that Sanders is being cockblocked by the DNC,” Noah said. “Is there any merit to this?
“As powerful as that makes me feel, I’m not doing a very good job of rigging the outcome or blocking … anyone from being able to get their message out,” Wasserman Schultz said. “The reality is I have a job as a national party chair that is one that requires a thick skin. It requires me to absorb the body blows so our candidates can stay above the fray.”
