GOP Senate candidate Ron DeSantis scores Northeast Florida sheriffs’ backing

On Tuesday morning, the Ron DeSantis Senate campaign showed strength in the candidate’s Northeast Florida backyard, via a joint statement of endorsement for the Ponte Vedra Republican from three influential lawmen and politicians: Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler, Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams, and St. John’s County Sheriff David Shoar.

“Ron DeSantis has served our country in the military, advocated for a strong national defense, and demonstrated a firm commitment to protecting the American taxpayer and reducing our national debt,” the sheriffs’ statement begins.

“As a former prosecutor, Ron DeSantis is keenly aware of the challenges facing law enforcement and has been steadfast in his support for our community.  We think he will make a great U.S. Senator for Florida and we are confident that he will be a Senator that the law enforcement community in Florida can count on for support,” the statement concludes.

In a crowded primary for the GOP Senate nomination with no clear frontrunner, it is important for candidates like DeSantis to keep their regional bases on board with endorsements such as these.
