April has come and gone, and as with every month since January, HD 13 incumbent Reggie Fullwood has yet to report fundraising for his re-election.
The Jacksonville Democrat doesn’t officially have a primary challenger yet, though as the Florida Times-Union‘s Tia Mitchell points out, there is speculation about who that primary challenger might be already.
Fullwood is dealing with federal charges on wire fraud and failure to file tax returns, though a continuance will push resolution of those back to sometime in August — too late for a new Democrat to enter the race.
With flux in the mostly Democratic district in mind, two new Republicans have filed in May: Darren Gardner, a Jacksonville event promoter; and David Lee Robertson, a military veteran.
Neither candidate was willing to answer even the most basic policy questions in phone interviews with this outlet earlier in May.
And so, the Republican primary has competition, while a seriously embattled Democratic incumbent may get handed the nomination.
Worth watching this month in HD 13: Do any other Democrats get in? And does Republican money find one of the two candidates on the GOP side?
If this seat is ever winnable for a Republican, 2016 is the year.
