Former Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink is giving her seal of approval to Jennifer Webb, the Gulfport-based Democrat now running for the House District 69 seat.
“Jennifer Webb is a proven leader who will bring a strong, independent voice to Tallahassee for the hardworking residents of Pinellas County,” Sink said on Tuesday. “For too long, career politicians have put the needs of lobbyists and special interests ahead of our community. Jennifer understands the challenges facing Pinellas families and will make sure that our tax dollars are spent wisely to improve our public schools, create good-paying jobs, protect our beautiful beaches and water supplies from fracking, and encourage business investment in alternative energy like solar.”
“As Florida’s CFO, Alex Sink focused on protecting consumers and their pocketbooks,” said Webb. “Alex worked on both sides of the aisle to find commonsense solutions. I am honored to have Alex’s endorsement and will always put the people of Pinellas first.”
Webb serves as director of community partnerships at the University of South Florida in Tampa. She officially announced her candidacy in the Pinellas County race last month, where she’s taking on GOP incumbent Kathleen Peters in a race that state Democrats believe can go from red to blue.
Webb announced last week she had raised more than $20,000 since entering the contest. Peters raised more than $11,000 last month, and has raised more than $141,000 this cycle (with more than $114,000 cash-on-hand).
