Kathleen Passidomo has earned the backing of the Collier County Medical Society PAC.
The Collier County organization announced Wednesday it was endorsing the Naples Republican in her Senate District 28 bid.
“Rep. Passidomo has been a great champion for our profession,” Dr. Rolando Rivera, chairman of the Collier County Medical Society PAC, said in a statement. “In her time in the Florida House, she has led the fight to reform our laws and reduce frivolous lawsuits that drive up the cost of care and harm both patients and providers.”
Passidomo faces Naples Republican Matt Hudson in the race to replace Garrett Richter in the Florida Senate.
“Physicians are on the front lines of public health, and their membership has been a valuable source of information as we make important policy decisions,” said Passidomo in a statement. “I look forward to continuing to work together to ensure that all Floridians have access to quality and affordable healthcare.”
First elected to the Florida House in 2010, Passidomo is foregoing a re-election bid to run for the Florida Senate. Hudson, who was elected to the Florida House in 2007 and has served as the chairman of the health care appropriations subcommittee, can’t run for re-election because of term limits.
No Democrat has filed to run in SD 28.
