Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry and General Counsel Jason Gabriel have taken aim at the “arrogance and disregard for taxpayers” and “a blatant disregard of public records law” by the Police and Fire Pension Fund, as it relates to soliciting Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi‘s opinion on the legality of the PFPF’s Senior Staff Voluntary Retirement Fund.
To that end, Curry sent Bondi a letter Tuesday, ahead of a communique expected from Gabriel Wednesday or Thursday.
“The vote, which occurred last Friday, predictably follows the Binding Legal Opinion of the General Counsel, which concluded that the JPFPF Board lacked authority to establish a ‘senior staff voluntary retirement plan’.”
Curry goes on to preface Gabriel’s letter, which will outline the nature of consolidated government and the JPFPF’s role, which is subservient to the general counsel, who serves as the “chief legal officer” for the entire consolidated government.
The board’s “recent effort,” writes Curry, is an “attempt to erode these principles” of consolidated government and “ignore the law.”
The war between the administration and the wayward police and fire pension fund continues apace in Jacksonville, as Curry’s letter indicates.
We have requested Gabriel’s letter, and will have a post when it becomes available.
