Reggie Gaffney sworn in

On Monday, Jacksonville City Councilman Reggie Gaffney issued a press release supporting the FBI investigation of the Vernell Bing Jr. killing.

Bing, shot in May after a 3.7 mile car chase through the residential streets of Springfield which ended with a head-on collision between his stolen car and that of a police officer, has become a cause celebre in the weeks since his death.

Gaffney, whose district includes the location where Bing was shot down, said that “since Day One of this incident I have said that there needs to be an independent investigation.”

Gaffney, alluding to the lack of trust between reisdents and the sheriff’s office, said the “community needs this outside investigation by outside parties to be reassured that the truth will be revealed and justice ultimately will be done.”
