State Sen. Darren Soto has picked up the endorsement of another member of Congress in his quest for the Aug. 30 Democratic primary nomination to run in Florida’s 9th Congressional District.
Soto’s campaign announced the endorsement by U.S. Rep. Scott Peters, a California Democrat who services on the House Armed Services and Judiciary committees.
“Sen. Darren Soto is a proven leader who understands that we must fight to create high-quality jobs and expand economic opportunity in a way that leaves no one behind. Darren is a true public servant with a humble, hardworking approach that we need more of in Congress,” Peters stated in a news release issued by Soto’s campaign. “As a member of the New Democrat Coalition I am proud to endorse Darren Soto for Congress.”
CD 9 includes all of Osceola County, as well as south-central Orange County and east Polk County.
Soto is in a four-way Aug. 30 primary for the Democratic nomination for the district, with Susannah Randolph, Dena Grayson and Valleri Crabtree. The Republican primary has Wayne Liebnitzky and Wanda Rentas.
“I am eager to work with Scott Peters in Congress and greatly appreciate his support of my candidacy,” Soto stated. “Scott and I are similar in that we are about action — not just talk. We like to solve problems and bring coalitions of people together to get results.”
