With two seats up for grabs on the Duval County School Board, JAXBIZ (the nonpartisan political arm of the Jax Chamber) announced its endorsements Thursday.
In Group 5, seven-term Jacksonville City Councilman Warren Jones got the nod. In Group 7, Greg Tison, general manager for Beaver Street Fisheries and property manager for Jacksonville Farmers Market, scored the endorsement.
“Both Warren and Greg are proven leaders who understand that the role of a school board is setting the policy while allowing the superintendent to run the day-to-day operations of a school district with 128,000 students,” JAXBIZ Board Chair Denise Wallace said. “A quality school system is critical to a thriving economy, and we believe Warren’s experience in a governance role and Greg’s business acumen will be tremendous assets to the Duval County School Board.”
JAXBIZ bills itself as supportive of the agenda of Superintendent Nikolai Vitti, and “business-minded school board candidates with the professional experience that can assist in providing oversight for the schools’ $1.7 billion budget.”
