State Rep. Randolph Bracy and former state Sen. Gary Siplin continue to be the only two candidates in the Senate District 11 race who are raising any money a month out from the Democratic primary that will essentially select the senator there.
Bracy again led the four Democrats running in SD 11 with an $8,193 haul in the last week of July, a total that left him with more than $73,000 in the bank for the stretch-run.
Siplin raised $5,125 in the week, leaving him with just $14,000. But that’s a far cry better than the other two Democrats running. Chuck O’Neal raised just $346 in the week. Even though he has lent $62,500 to his campaign, he was entering the final stretch with just $3,771. Former state Rep. Bob Sindler, also a former Orange County commissioner, raised $125 and checked in with $1,903 left.
The four seek to fill the seat, representing west Orange County, being vacated by state Sen. Geraldine Thompson of Orlando, who’s running for Congress. There are two write-in candidates in the field, so the Democrats will decide their nominee in the Aug. 30 primary, with little competition for the general election.
