Chuck Clemons has won the Republican primary.

The Alachua County Republican defeated Wenda Lewis in House District 21. According to unofficial election results, Clemons received 46 percent of the vote, followed by Lewis with 36 percent. Republican Tim Rogers received 17 percent.

A Santa Fe College administrator and former Alachua County commissioner, Clemons was endorsed by the Florida Chamber of Commerce. The Florida Chamber ran TV and digital ads backing him, and he also received the backing of Allen Bense, the former House Speaker.

A former Democrat, Clemons changed parties in 1999 when he ran for the Florida House.

Lewis, the vice president of Lewis Oil, was the subject of a two-year Florida Department of Law Enforcement probe over campaign contributions to her boyfriend’s 2010 state House run. She was endorsed by the NRA, Florida Right to Life and CFO Jeff Atwater.
