John Ward Congress

Republican John Ward is continuing to stake out the Trump lane in his bid to succeed exiting U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis in Florida’s 6th Congressional District.

In support of that effort, his campaign announced Friday that it’s freshening up its previously announced six-figure ad buy with a new 30-second spot slated to start running on First Coast cable networks tout suite.

The ad, “Unleash,” touts the Navy veteran and businessman’s record as a job creator and paints Ward as the Republican candidate most aligned with the Trump administration’s agenda.

“Proven business leader John Ward knows how to revitalize our economy like President Trump, who has built many businesses and created jobs,” the ad narrator states.

“I’ll fight to slash overreaching regulations, lower taxes and build the border wall to grow Florida jobs and paychecks. Small business has been restrained by big government far long,” Ward says.

“John Ward has the proven experience to help Trump unleash the American economy. Made in America — John Ward for Congress,” the narrator says in closing.

Ward faces former state Rep. Fred Costello and Fox News contributor Mike Waltz in the Republican Primary for what had been seen as a safe GOP district until DeSantis’ early-2018 announcement he would leave Congress to run for Governor.

Ward led the Republican field with $709,000 banked through March, including $550,000 in candidate contribs, while Waltz was about $50K behind counting the $400,000 he’d pumped into his campaign. Costello is treading water with $15,720 banked at the end of Q1.

CD 6 is still a “likely Republican” district according to University of Virginia political scientist Larry J. Sabato’s “Crystal Ball,” but the race has drawn a trio of Democratic hopefuls including two — Daytona Beach physician Steven Sevigny and former Ambassador to the United Nations Nancy Soderberg — who’ve raised well into the six figures.

CD 6 covers a stretch of Florida’s east coast, from southern Jacksonville to New Smyrna Beach.
