Ted Deutch, Lois Frankel endorse Joe Casello for HD 90

Joe Casello, the last remaining candidate in the race for House District 90, has likely further cemented a win after netting new endorsements from U.S. Reps. Ted Deutch and Lois Frankel.

Their support comes on the heels of that from the Palm Beach County Classroom Teachers Association, which also announced Wednesday it will be backing Casello.

Casello, who currently represents Boynton Beach City Commission District 4, is running to replace outgoing state Rep. Lori Berman.

Berman is attempting a move to the state Senate, running in the special election for Senate District 31. She has already endorsed Casello to replace her in the House.

Casello’s HD 90 challengers have all dropped out, leaving him alone to run for the seat — that is unless a new entrant jumps into the race before the noon Friday deadline.

But that appears to be an increasingly uphill battle, given Casello’s latest round of endorsements.

“On the Boynton Beach City Commission, Joe Casello was a strong voice for the Democratic values we share and a tireless advocate for his community,” said Frankel in an announcement.

“In Tallahassee, I know he’ll continue to fight for workers’ rights and organized labor, quality public education, expanded job creation, and our environment. I’m thrilled to endorse his candidacy because I know he’ll be an outstanding state representative.”

Deutch added: “Joe will be an excellent addition to the Florida House, where he’ll be a leader in the movement to implement common-sense gun safety laws, including an assault weapons ban.”

Casello served in the Air Force and a firefighter before joining the Boynton Beach City Commission in 2013.

Justin Katz, president of the Palm Beach County CTA, emphasized Casello’s views on education in announcing the group’s endorsement.

“We are pleased to support Joe in that we know he will be a champion of traditional public schools, smaller class sizes, and equitable pay for teachers. He’ll be a fierce advocate for our kids, our teachers, and our community at large.”

Casello was grateful for the support, remarking: “I’m proud of the support our campaign has received from so many of the people and groups fighting to implement substantive, progressive change in our state.”

“In the Legislature, it is my pledge to focus education, health care, sensible gun safety measures, and high-paying jobs,” he added.

HD 90 covers part of Palm Beach County including the communities of Boynton Beach, Atlantis and Lantana.
