John Rutherford heads to Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee

U.S. Rep. John Rutherford, unopposed in the GOP primary, is nonetheless slated to face a Democrat and a host of NPAs in November.

Looking for a second term, the Jacksonville Republican will have a meaningful campaign talking point. Monday saw Appropriations Chair Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen put Rutherford on the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs subcommittee.

For Rutherford, this is a plum assignment. He spotlighted military spending in his news release about the budget bill earlier this year.

Rutherford has turned his attention to veterans’ medical issues, including a shortage of doctors in VA hospitals, and a need for job training options for vets also.

“I am honored to be joining the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs as it is great news for Northeast Florida,” Rutherford said. “In this role, I will be on the subcommittee that appropriates funding for the Department of Defense’s installations, which means that I will have a stronger voice in fighting for the First Coast’s military interests. This subcommittee also directs funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“After previously serving on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, I look forward to using this platform to increase resources for our veterans and their families.”

My family has received false financial statements for an account established by a veteran’s last will and testament. Florida state chartered institutions that are connected to Federally chartered banks are involved. We contacted Mr. Rutherford’s office hoping he would investigate. I was never able to reach Mr. Rutherford on the phone. It was was like his office had a mechanism in place to automatically refer me somewhere else – which is what most regulatory agencies will do when you call them with this type of complaint. Mr. Rutherford receives significant contributions from banks and other entities connected to the financial services industry. Could that be part of the problem?
