Democrat Darryl Block is receiving the endorsement of the National Association of Social Workers in his campaign for House District 29.
Block is a lawyer and social worker from Lake Mary.
He faces Tracey Kagan in the Aug. 28 Democratic primary. The winner takes on Republican state Rep. Scott Plakon in November for the central Seminole County district.
The National Association of Social Workers has 120,000 members.
“Social workers are the unsung heroes of society, helping to glue the tapestry of communities together,” Block stated in a news release issued by his campaign.
“We must change the mindset of our Legislature to one where we help one another,” he continued. “A culture of austerity has been poison to at-risk communities in Florida, particularly communities of color. And no one understands the needed solutions to economic disenfranchisement better than social workers.”
Block’s campaign stated that he used his skills as a social worker and attorney to serve working families, and is an advocate of vastly-improved mental health treatment and availability, employee rights, and pay equity.
