U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris is set to hit the campaign trail to help re-elect her colleague, Bill Nelson, to the Senate.
Nelson, the Democratic incumbent, is attempting to fend off a challenge from Republican Gov. Rick Scott.
The Nelson campaign says Harris will join him at a private fundraiser Saturday in Sarasota. The two will then meet in Miami to speak at four different church congregations throughout the area.
“Bill Nelson fights for all Floridians, no matter their race, religion or income,” Harris said in a statement announcing her upcoming visit.
“And I am honored to join him in Florida so we can continue to protect voting rights and health care for millions of Americans, make college more affordable and ensure Americans can retire with dignity,” she continued.
Harris is the latest high-profile official to join Nelson on the trail. Earlier this week, U.S. Sen. Doug Jones of Alabama campaigned with Nelson in Pensacola. Former Vice President Joe Biden also dropped in during a rally at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
Recent polls have disagreed on the exact state of the race, perhaps a sign of a close contest on Nov. 6. Currently, FiveThirtyEight has Nelson at about a 3 in 4 favorite to earn a fourth term.
The Florida Senate contest has drawn a lot of attention, with more than $53 million in outside money being spent so far.
Gov. Scott also announced Friday he would rejoin the campaign trail. Scott had pulled back, allowing First Lady Ann Scott to take his place, as the Governor helped address recovery efforts following Hurricane Michael.
