Duval Democrats officially ‘oppose’ Lenny Curry re-election, clear way for Anna Brosche

Duval Democrats clear way for Anna Brosche.

With no Democrat running for Jacksonville Mayor, the Duval Democrats were ill-positioned to formally endorse anyone.

However, the local party found a workaround: a resolution of opposition to the re-election of Republican Mayor (and former Republican Party of Florida chair) Lenny Curry.

The press release dropped Tuesday morning.

“Last week, our party membership unanimously passed a resolution opposing the re-election of Lenny Curry. Four more years of this incumbent will have devastating impacts on transparency in government, the continuation of the Curry Crime Wave, and the sale of public assets against the public’s expressed interest like JEA. We encourage all Democrats to make an informed decision in the Mayor’s race and reject former statewide Republican party boss, Lenny Curry,” asserted Chairman Daniel Henry.

“Special interests and elected officials have tried to make the case that Curry, regularly crosses the aisle, and puts people before politics. Democrats reject that false narrative, and in fact nothing can be further from the truth. Bi-partisan leaders don’t remove opponents from city boards, bully and demand loyalty from public officials, and reject calls for transparency,” Henry added.

“For this and so many reasons, the Duval County Democratic Party opposes the re-election of Lenny Curry and encourages all Democrats to participate in the Mayoral election and vote for a candidate who best aligns with Democratic values,” Henry urged.

Given the considerable buy-in from major Democrats into the campaign of Jacksonville City Councilwoman Anna Brosche, some will see subtext in that statement.

Brosche will be at an event Wednesday evening put on by the Duval Democrats.

Kicking It with the Candidates will be at Cuba Libre in Arlington; the event kicks off at 6:30.

In addition to Brosche, every non-Curry mayoral candidate will be there, including NPA Omega Allen, write-in Brian Griffin, and Republican Jimmy Hill.

Brosche has been actively campaigning, but very few of her events have been open or advised for press, so this will be one to catch for media and other interested parties.

In addition, we understand that she will be feted at a big-ticket fundraiser Friday evening. Curry has over $3 million banked, fundraised with Casey DeSantis Monday, and will fundraise with Shad Khan Wednesday, so it is needed.

Details on the Brosche event are forthcoming.

If Anna Brosche is part and parcel of the Democratic Party mantra, why didn’t she switch her party and be transparent about her values before she entered the mayoral race? And is she going to support the Democratic Party in the race for President of the United States in 2020? Those who are rock-ribbed Democrats should be steadfast about issues that they hold dear before falling for the “I’m Not Lenny Curry” line in supporting someone who might wave the Make America Great Again banner next year.
