Staff for the Joint Legislative Auditing Committee on Tuesday randomly selected 24 lobbying firms for audits of their 2018 compensation reports.
Three percent of both legislative and executive lobbying firms were selected. That means 13 firms that lobbied the Legislature and 11 firms that lobbied the executive branch last year will undergo audits.
Multiple backup firms also were selected. These firms will be picked for audits if one of the primary firms cannot be audited.
Staff noted that only a handful of backup firms have been audited in the past.
Audits will begin on May 1 and end before June 30.
