Florida Republican Senator howls about Democratic strong-arm tactics.

With Democrats threatening budget reconciliation if Republicans won’t go along on virus relief, Senators such as Florida’s first-term Rick Scott are wailing about proposed “paybacks” to Democratic politicians in President Joe Biden‘s $1.9 trillion virus aid proposal.

“The Democrats have made it blatantly obvious that this isn’t about helping people – it’s a payback to their friends for helping with their campaigns. Less than two weeks into the Biden Administration and Democrats have already completely abandoned their inauthentic calls for ‘unity’ and ‘bipartisanship’ just to push through massive spending and get tax dollars to their buddies. You can’t make this stuff up,” Scott groused Monday, in an email from his Senate office highlighting a cable news hit the night before.

In an A-block appearance on Fox Report, the Senator from Naples framed Biden’s proposal as a sop to the radical left, suggesting that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is really the driver of the Democrats’ wishlist package.

“This is led by Bernie Sanders, who is now Democratic head of the budget committee,” Scott said, “all his idea of where we should go.”

“Do you think Bernie Sanders cares how big the budget is? How high your taxes are going to have to go? What’s going to happen when we can’t pay off this debt? What’s going to happen to interest expense? No, he doesn’t care. He just wants to spend money,” Scott thundered.

Beyond the invocation of Sanders as the puppet master driving the Biden White House proposal, much of the appearance had a greatest hits quality.

The radical left is “not worried about $27 trillion in debt,” Scott added, and the proposal, including “state bailout” funds specifically to California and New York, is “just a payback to the liberal left.”

Scott also took issue with new money for schools, including $20 billion in a moderate Republican plan advanced.

“We’ve already given $100 billion to schools. In Florida, our schools are open. The CDC says schools can open now,” Scott said, calling that yet another “payback” with “billions and billions and billions more, just a payback to the teacher’s union.”

I did not hear Rick Scott complain when the Trump administration passed tax legislation that significantly increased our national debt but reduced his taxes which was essentially free money in his pocket. Now, he is afraid that he will have to pay his share of taxes like most hard working Americans.

No, Senator Scott- free money is when you steal billions from taxpayers in Medicare fraud, pay yourself a huge salary and severance, and leave your former company to pay a huge fine.
