U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham scored several more subcommittee assignments for her first year in Congress, many with significant economic importance to her North Florida constituents.
Among Graham’s appointments are to the Armed Services and Agriculture subcommittees, groups that gives her a bigger impact on behalf of Florida’s Second Congressional District.
“Bringing the North Florida Way to Washington means working on the issues most important to constituents,” the Tallahassee Democrat said in a statement. “Serving on these subcommittees will allow me to have a greater impact in Congress for the military, farmers and families across North Florida.”
As a member of Armed Services, Graham will serve on the Seapower and Projection Forces, Tactical Air and Land Forces and Oversight and Investigation subcommittees. Seapower and Projection Forces has oversight of the Navy, and authority over Naval Support Activity Panama City, located in Bay County.
Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee is in charge of ammunition programs, Army and Air Force acquisition programs, all Navy and Marine Corps aviation programs, and National Guard and Army and Air Force National Guard and Reserve. It administers Tyndall Air Force Base, east of Panama City.
“It’s my job in Congress to make sure our service members have the resources they need,” Graham said. “Whether they’re in North Florida or serving on the front lines.”
With Agriculture, Graham will sit on the General Farm Commodities and Risk Management and Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research Subcommittees. General Farm has regulatory jurisdiction over federal crop insurance and markets for crops such as cotton and peanuts both essential to North Florida’s economy.
Graham will also be joining the Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research Subcommittee, which oversees fruits, vegetables and nuts, including citrus, a critical Florida industry. Other committee authorities include research, education, and extension, which supports Florida A&M, FSU, and UF extension programs.
“Farmers and rural communities are the backbone of North Florida,” Graham said.
