Ron DeSantis rips Donald Trump supporters as ‘listless vessels’

Trump DeSantis
'A movement can't be about the personality of one individual.'

Florida’s Governor is going on the offense against the former President — and his devoted supporters.

In an interview with the Florida StandardRon DeSantis is ripping Donald Trump backers as privileging personality over conservative purity.

“If all we are is listless vessels that are just supposed to follow, you know, whatever happens to come down the pike on Truth Social every morning, that’s not going to be a durable movement,” DeSantis said.

The Governor also rejects claims that he and others who buck the cult of “personality” around the former President are “RINOs.”

“And so you could be the most conservative person since sliced bread. Unless you’re kissing his rear end, they will somehow call you a RINO. So it’s been totally detached from principle in what you actually believe and results. And it’s more about, you know, just what faction you happen to do,” DeSantis said.

The Governor continued to describe what he perceives as hypocrisy.

“There will be people who are huge Trump supporters like in Congress who have, like, incredibly liberal left-wing records that’s really just atrocious and yet they’re viewed by some of these folks as, like, really, really good. Then you have other people, you know, like a Congressman Chip Roy who’s endorsed me, Congressman Thomas Massie,” he said.

“These guys have records of principle, fighting the swamp that are second to none, and yet they will be attacked by some of these people and called RINOs.”

The Governor’s remarks prompted a quick response from Trump’s camp, in the form of a statement demanding DeSantis apologize.

“To Hillary Clinton, Trump supporters are ‘deplorables.’ To Ron DeSantis, they are ‘listless vessels.’ The truth is, Trump supporters are patriots,” said Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for Make America Great Again Inc.

“Ron DeSantis is showing his true colors. The pressure of polling in third place is getting to DeSantis and now he is lashing out at the very same voters who got him elected Governor. DeSantis must immediately apologize for his disgraceful insult.”

Others from the former President’s inner circle objected to the remarks, comparing the Governor to 2016 Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

“Looks like Ron DeSanctimonious just had his ‘Basket of Deplorables moment,” contended Jason Miller. “Not good!”

“DeSantis goes full-blown Hillary and calls MAGA supporters ‘Listless Vessels,’” Trump spox Steven Cheung added.

Meanwhile, DeSantis’ spox says the Governor’s comments were misinterpreted.

The dishonest media refuses to report the facts—Donald Trump and some congressional endorsers are ‘listless vessels.’ Why? Because Trump and DC insiders feel he is entitled to your vote. (DeSantis) believes your trust should be earned and has the vision, plan, and record to beat Joe Biden and reverse the decline of our country. That’s why Ron DeSantis will be showing up on Wednesday night to debate, and Donald Trump will not,” asserted Bryan Griffin.

Griffin, whose comments came hours after the story ran, did not say which “congressional endorsers” were “listless vessels” and which weren’t. Nor did he explain why Trump not debating has anything to do with said listless vessels.

DeSantis has said he’d have no problem getting Trumpers to back him in the General Election. Clearly though there are some he feels are beyond reach or reason.

“It’s just been totally detached from any type of substance. And ultimately, a movement can’t be about the personality of one individual. The movement has got to be about what are you trying to achieve on behalf of the American people,” DeSantis added.

DeSantis has been sniping at Trump in recent days ahead of the first GOP Primary debate of the cycle — a debate Trump has said he won’t be attending.

This week, DeSantis criticized Trump for attempting to upstage him during the Iowa State Fair.

“When I was at the Iowa State fair with (Gov.) Kim Reynolds, that’s when they did their counter program. I think he was on the ground for 45 or 50 minutes. I was the only candidate he cared about in Iowa. He came because I was there and he wanted to try to take some of the attention away from us,” DeSantis said.

Trump, meanwhile, hit DeSantis for his crowd size.

“He had a very small crowd. He only had a few people show up. It’s a big difference,” Trump said.

It appears the two won’t be trading barbs on the debate stage Wednesday night, however, as Trump has reportedly chosen not to attend the debate.

Ron just showed how out of touch he is. Trump is beloved for his actions. He’s the only politician in my lifetime to make promises and then follow through with actions. The only politician to push policies that benefit the people. A secure border, good paying jobs, wage increases, peace through strength, cheap gas, low inflation etc etc.

The problem with Ron and 99% of the rest of Republicans is that they only care about corporate profits and globalist/Deep State bureaucracy interests. Ron is a RINO fraud, I truly wish it weren’t so but he is. He disgusts me…

“…policies of control? The GOP? Really?”
            Yes, really.
The GOP of late has been trying to control what books Americans can read, what teachers and professors can say in the classroom about Black History, and which citizens can vote. In Florida, the Republicans in Tallahassee, in cahoots with the Governor, have taken away local control from city and county governments in regard to education, the environment, and real estate development. They have also tried to control how privately owned companies can go about their business.
            The answer is yes, really.

Everything the media and anti-Trumpers cried would occur under Trump didn’t happen but has happened under the cognitively impaired Joe Biden’s administration. The biggest question on everyone’s mind should be who is leading the country because it isn’t Joe. There is no elected official in charge. That is the biggest undermining of our democratic republic that could happen. It is the Democrats who crafted that through election interference with the CIA, FBI, DOJ, etc., with the propagandist media carrying all their water and social media running interference through censorship.

RDS repeatedly demonstrated his willingness to put forward controversial conservative policies and to fight to successfully implement them. In fact, probably at least to the same degree as Trump and maybe more effectively. RDS is not a massive egoist who turns on people the instant they express a non-conforming idea to his. I also think DeSantis is more intelligent than Trump (who is, admittedly, very smart). But Trump is a far more shallow person and will wave his arms and scream, “Drain the swamp!”, but RDS has the same objective but can explain the details of how he will accomplish the task. Vivek Ramaswamy is good this way too.

Trump will lose the general election if he gets that far. Biden is not going to be the Dem candidate, and I don’t think Kamala will be either. Trump’s historic negatives and self-destructive impulses severely reduce his odds of beating the Dems.

Its CRAZY ain’t it.. RDS could have kept his mouth shut and waited till Trump was disqualified then he could have swooped in and picked up the MAGA crowd but now he’s just a Bush conservative and he won’t be electable…

He signed 2 bills favoring the ins industry last yr. We now have the highest homeowners rates in the country.
He protected hosp’s from remdesivir/vent malpractice suits.
At the request of Ken Griffin/Citadel lobbyists he just allowed an exception for Chinese real estate purchases near FL military bases.
His medical “freedom” law allows FL officials to enforce int’l health policies.
His handpicked Pub Svc Comm’ers made massive investments in wind and solar pgms and 1200 sq mile solar farm. Now elec grid is threatened and prices are skyrocketing.

The future of China. And China has such a stellar record for mining safety and environmental concerns.

By the way, renewable energy is just as damaging to the environment and less reliable than fossil fuels. The first generation of solar panels is about to fail & they have no idea how to dispose of these hazards to the environment as they potentially leech toxic materials into the soil.

Have you seen what solar or wind farms look like? Make for beautiful landscapes that kill animals. Look up the whale deaths along the Eastern seaboard of US because of wind farm development in the Atlantic Ocean..

Also there aren’t enough of the raw earth materials required for renewable energy. But I’m sure you’ll be very happy living in an authoritarian 15-minute city where your life is regulated by an elite political class managed by tyrannical corporate oligarchs.

Your are most likely not in Florida, and it is obvious you haven’t looked at anything….

Lie #1. >>>> We now have the highest homeowners rates in the country.

Florida ranks in the middle of the pack, about 10% below the national average in homeowner insurance rates for 2023. The highest rate states are Tornado Alley states: Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, as they have always been.

Lie #2: >>>>> His medical “freedom” law allows FL officials to enforce int’l health policies.

SB 252 Sec.3 Sec. 381.00321 prohibits any government agency, including state agencies, towns, cities, counties, committees, boards, judicial branches, and education entities from implementing or enforcing any international health org’s policy or guidelines unless explicitly authorized by state legislative law or governor executive order.

Lie #3: >>>>> he just allowed an exception for Chinese real estate purchases near FL military bases.

“ In a recent news release, the Republican announced his signing of that bill and two others which are meant to “counteract” what he described as “the malign influence of the Chinese Communist party in the state of Florida”.

One bill restricts Chinese nationals from buying land in Florida unless they are also American citizens or permanent residents.

FPL has purchased about 12,000 acres in the last couple years. In several different counties. That’s 18.75 sq. miles. The latest was in June, around 7000 acres, in Manatee and Collier counties. That’s 10.93 sq. miles.

Yes, all troublesome. I liked DeSantis and was hopeful, until I saw how he kowtowed to the donor class, changed his mind on key issues, and ran to his donors for campaign advise for his 3rd reset. I guess they now told him to criticize Trump. And he boasts that he’ll dismantle the deep state all while counting on the deep state to take out his political rival. I was waiting for him to show some character and step up and say they’ve gone too far with what’s happening to Trump.

To say I’m disappointed in my governor is an understatement. I was so excited to see him run and I thought I knew the guy. Boy was I wrong!! Insurance is out of control in Florida, former Chicago resident & BIG GOP donor Ken Girffin gets his way with Florida now that he lives and works here. China is buying property closer to military installations now that Ron signed a bill allowing them to be closer. He has protected hospital for malpractice claims over Remdisivir, which is known to cause kidney failure. The list continues to grow in favor of the Rove/Ryan GOP. Not the voters. This governor is all plastic. What we see on the outside is NOT what’s inside. Glad we see this now.

Lawrence Tribe and retired Judge Michael Luttig have penned an article in The Atlantic, THE CONSTITUTION PROHIBITS TRUMP FROM EVER BEING PRESIDENT AGAIN, citing several conservative authors who have recently revisited Section 3 of the 14th Amendment that was written after the Confederates attempted to dismantle the United States. The following statement does not state that Trump needed to be CONVICTED of insurrection …. only that he gave ‘comfort’ to the people involved.

    Here is the cited section:

“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”

If Trump wins the nomination I’ll bet that more than several States will refuse to put Trump’s name on the ballot and the Supreme Court will be summoned to interpret this challenge.

      August 19, 2023 at 6:49 pm

It says elector of VP or P. Article 2 of the Constitution states the qualifications for President. What occurred was nothing near an insurrection- That’s only in the minds of the Democrats who have no trouble changing definitions to meet their own narratives, and now Never-Trumpers are willing to do the same. We must be smarter and fight harder.

I know if your little leftist mind that an insurrection happened on January 6th but you would be incorrect. Quit listening to CNN and MSNBC, they lie.

January was not different than when BLM occupied the capital and Nancy Piglosi’s office yet somehow that was a peaceful demonstration.

I was a huge DeSantis fan. I spent more than two dozen hours volunteering for his gubernatorial campaign. He has not perceived that there are tens of millions of us who are big fans of Trump who are angry at progressives for using lawfare to tie up Trump and angry at old-school GOP for hindering his first two years. DeSantis made a very bad decision to cozy up to the old-school GOP donor class.

I may lose another 20% of my 401K if Biden is re-elected but I’ll never support someone who bad-mouths Trump.

    Indeed, a Hillary “Deplorables” moment.

This just shows that RDS does NOT understand the MAGA movement, even though it got him elected…twice.

I knew he was a RINO when I read he hired a bunch of !JEB!’s cronies as advisors, and then Karl Rove started pimping him.

And then the coup de gras: his flip-flop on Ukraine, from “we should not engage in a local border dispute” to “Yes, I Stand With Ukraine.”

As a Floridian who voted for him twice, my support for future DeSantis political endeavors has chilled considerably.

Ron would still be an insignificant Congressman or less, if Trump hadn’t supported him in his initial Governor Primary in 2018. He is as bad as Hillary (remember the bag of deplorable’s comment). Had he had any common sense and not listened to the puppet makers and not run for President; he might have received a Cabinet post or VP with Trump so he would be prepared to run and win the Presidency in 2028. But no, he let others control him!!!

Trump is the best president in US history. he did not sell out, take a salary. He took a failed Obama economy and turned it around in 6 months. Democrats gave us Covid to win an election, by fraud I might add. They try to normalize all the abominations in the bible. The Illumini are devil worshipers that are billionaires that controls Hollywood, News media, sports figures, politicians, and musicians. If you don’t do what they say, you lose your job in those fields. You have big name actors fighting back. Most politicians are on the take. Trump is not! He did every thing he said he would. They try to attack him with fake news, but we know who is behind the curtain pulling the strings. We will fight to expose those pulling the strings, but Trump is the only President that has ball enough to stand up to them. Trump is not perfect, nor is anyone else
