Support for legalizing recreation remains high, but is still shy of the threshold needed to amend Florida’s Constitution.
That’s according to a poll released by the Florida Chamber of Commerce, which found 58% of Floridians ready to support Amendment 3 on the November ballot. About 37% of those polled oppose the measure and only 5% remain undecided.
In order for a proposed constitutional amendment to pass, 60% of voters weighing in on the ballot initiative must support it.
Pollsters at Cherry Communications report a margin of error of 4 percentage points, so that puts passage within reach. But taking the results of the poll at face value, supporters of the measure will need to win over nearly half of voters still on the fence in order for the measure to pass.
Of note, the Florida Chamber has taken a stance against the amendment, mostly on the argument that such policy matters don’t belong in the state constitution.
“With 144 amendments since its creation in 1968, Florida’s constitution has long been a target of special interest groups with agendas and recreational marijuana is no different,” said Florida Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Mark Wilson.
“The Florida Chamber continues to lead the fight it has fought for over 20 years against similar proposed amendments that could be addressed legislatively rather than through altering Florida’s foundational document.”
The poll was conducted from April 28 through May 7, and included responses from 609 participants, including 256 Republicans, 223 Democrats and 130 others not registered with either major party.
Amendment 3, called Adult Personal Use of Marijuana on the ballot, has been championed by Smart & Safe Florida. The campaign was originally backed primarily by Trulieve, but reported a $15 million boost from industrywide supporters after the Florida Supreme Court approved ballot language.
The additional financial support came from companies including Verano Holdings, Curaleaf Holdings, AYR Wellness, Cresco Labs, Green Thumb Industries and INSA. That reflects the significant business stake in the measure heading toward Fall.

Why would anybody vote No? What’s the point in a No vote? If you don’t want to smoke (or eat or vape) weed, just don’t! But vote Yes for freedom for people to entertain themselves in a really harmless way if they want to. Vote Yes for letting the polices deal with real shit instead of chasing “the aroma of marijuana” all over town, at will, no warrant, inside any car, inside any house.
With weed laws as they are, all the cops gotta do is say their dog sat down next to the crack where your car door meets the car frame. That’s very silly. While dogs can be trained to do that very accurately, you can’t ask a dog “did you sit down right there due to your official training or because you learned over the years that you get a treat for doing that?”
Either replace all judges with dogs, or vote Yes for freedom to enjoy a plant that God put here on Earth for us to enjoy. Nobody will force you to do weed if it’s legal, just like nobody forces you to do weed right now while it’s not legal.
Cops chasing weed, that wastes infinite amounts of time and money. Time and money mean taxes. Vote yes for weed for lower taxes, or at least the polices making better use of the tax money they get instead of chasing the smell of weed when the smell of weed typically locates somebody relaxing themselves and being totally chill, maybe at worst and most destructively, eating too many Doritos

Marijuana has a distinctive smell. It’s terrible, right?
Well, that depends on YOU.
Lots of people consider cigars to be very smelly and terrible and they’d strongly prefer not to smell a cigar.
But then one day they have a cigar due to peer pressure from a new baby and realize they like it and then, just like that, the terrible cigar smell that always offended them so much is now the aroma of someone enjoying a cigar good for them.
It’s you own perspective as to how weed smells. For me, weed smells like freedom. But it is a little smelly, so i do the edibles. There’s no smell at all for me or anyone else from edibles.
Y’know what does stink? SUV motorcades. And their stank is really bad for you. And yet, who rides all around the USA in an SUV motorcade? You guess it. The very guy whining about how weed smells, to his perspective, “bad.”

I’m actually surprised at this. I thought the weed one would be easier to pass than the abortion protection one.
In any case, everyone, get out and vote. Also, now would be a good time to check your registration, make sure everything matches your driver’s license or ID, that you have renewed your mail-in ballot request if you want one, and also, please use all the resources at your county Supervisor of Elections website. Broward County for example has a nifty I think it’s just one page that explains who poll watchers are and what they can and cannot do. And one thing they cannot do is touch ballots. Another thing they cannot do is engage you. If a poll watcher thinks something hinky is going on, they have to report it to the actual poll workers and/or their supervisors.
I don’t actually expect there’s going to be a lot of intimidation from poll watchers, but according to what I read, there should not be any, and poll watchers can be reported for violations of the law too.
Just suggesting everyone go find that info from their county SoE website, print it out, read it, and bring it with you when you go vote, if you are not choosing to vote absentee.

Police in Milton, Florida arrested a man because he pulled a gun on an Uber driver earlier this week. The driver was dropping off his daughter when Sean Hollonbeck did this. He made the driver get out of the car and lie down on the ground. Now, he’s been charged with false imprisonment and aggravated assault with a weapon.
