Lloyd Austin tells Naval Academy grads to expect ‘tension and uncertainty’
What does Lloyd Austin need to do to facilitate voting by service emembers?

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told U.S. Naval Academy graduates Friday that they will be leading future sailors and Marines “through tension and uncertainty,” noting how two graduates from last year were just aboard the USS Carney in the Red Sea, where they helped shoot down missiles and drones.

The Navy has stationed multiple ships in the Red Sea since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7, which has heightened tensions in the region. The secretary said the two ensigns, who only just graduated last year, were aboard the Navy destroyer and “helped defend the freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.”

“They helped those in distress at sea,” Austin said. “They helped degrade the capabilities of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.”

The Carney, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, has shot down multiple rockets the Houthis have fired toward Israel during that nation’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The Secretary said the two graduates from last year asked him to tell the newly minted Navy and Marine Corps officers that they were ready to serve, because the academy is “the ultimate team-building exercise.”

“And what comes next is not a drill,” Austin said. “You will lead sailors and Marines through tension and uncertainty. Your teammates will look to you for leadership.”

There are a total of 1,040 graduates in the class of 2024 — 725 men and 315 women. Of them, 760 were commissioned as Navy ensigns, including 520 men and 240 women. There were 258 commissioned as second lieutenants in the Marine Corps, including 188 men and 70 women.

If you are serving while Joe Biden is CIC the chances are pretty good you will see conflict. Just look at what has happened since Joe become President. Putin takes on Ukraine. Houthi Rebels routinely take shots at USN ships. Israel is invaded by Hamas. Iran launches hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel. You see no one fears or respects him. These bad guys only respect one thing and that is force. Remember when Trump tossed that MOAB bomb into the mountains of Afghanistan early in his presidency. Not a peep out of them during Trump’s term.

I think Trump would be tougher on Iran, would probably take out their nukes which would be a blessing for the world. Of all the nuclear powers and would be powers, only North Korea and Iran openly threaten the existence of their neighbors on a regular basis.
Problem with Trump is inconsistency and America First which is retreat to save money and open the door for his buddy Putin to expand Russian influence.
You create a vacuum and bad actors will fill it. Trump’s weird approach to Nato will result in the mother of all vacuums.
Biden does appear weak, but over time he is consistent with past American foreign policy, where Trump, who either doesnt care about precedent or doesnt know about it, blunders around like a bull in the Red China shop. He’s going to break a lot of stuff.
