Former Sen. Annette Taddeo’s bid for Miami-Dade County Clerk and Comptroller just got a nod from the political arm of South Florida’s longest-serving LGBTQ rights group.
Taddeo’s campaign announced an endorsement from SAVE Action PAC, an organization associated with Miami-based SAVE.
In a statement, SAVE Executive Director Todd Delmay called Taddeo “a longstanding and unwavering champion for equality.”
“We’ve seen numerous state-level attacks on the LGBTQ+ community in recent years, and Sen. Taddeo defended us with conviction and compassion,” he said.
“Annette has proven herself to be a much-needed voice of reason who can be counted on to advocate for equality and justice for all Miami-Dade residents.”
While representing the Kendall area of Miami-Dade, Taddeo was a vocal opponent of Florida’s so-called “Parental Rights in Education” law restricting LGBTQ-inclusive classroom instruction. She also co-sponsored measures in 2019 to ban conversion therapy on minors and repeatedly backed legislation to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.
“I am so proud to have earned this endorsement from SAVE Action PAC, just as I am proud to support our beautiful LGBTQ+ community every single day,” she said in a statement Wednesday. “Miami-Dade is a community built on diversity, inclusion, and love. I will always defend the right of every resident to live freely and safely as their truest selves.”
Taddeo also carries endorsements from SEIU Florida, 32BJ SEIU, Latino Victory Fund and Ruth’s List.
She is now competing in the Clerk’s race against former Republican Rep. Juan Fernandez-Barquin, whom Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed last year after the death of longtime Clerk Harvey Ruvin.
No-party candidate Rubin Young has also qualified for the contest. He’s running as a write-in candidate.
The General Election is on Nov. 5.
