'I’m not afraid to shake things up to get things done.'

Boca Raton Deputy Mayor Fran Nachlas is throwing her hat in the ring to succeed Mayor Scott Singer in 2026.

Nachlas is now one of three candidates running in the open Boca Raton Mayor’s race, along with perennial candidate Bernard Korn and Boca Raton City Council member Andy Thomson.

“We can lead, or we can fall behind — as Boca Raton’s next mayor, I will be leading and taking the tough decisions head-on,” Nachlas said in a statement announcing her candidacy.

“Innovation and commonsense decisions are the hallmarks of my public service, and we are going to keep Boca Raton safe, secure, resident-focused, and an economic powerhouse under my administration.”

Nachlas has lived in Boca Raton since 1996. She previously chaired the Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency and also served on the Boca Raton Community Advisory Panel.

She is also a member of the Palm Beach County Transportation Planning Agency governing board and the Florida League of Cities Development, Code Compliance and Redevelopment Committee. Nachlas was also selected as one of 14 people in the U.S. to join the Champions Institute Smart Growth America Cohort, an organization dedicated to helping create neighborhoods that are easily traversable.

“Keeping our local economy energized, making City Hall even more efficient, and making smart choices to address traffic and infrastructure needs will be key responsibilities for Boca Raton’s next mayor,” Nachlas added in her Wednesday statement.

“I’m not afraid to shake things up to get things done.”

Korn has run multiple times for positions in city government, including for Mayor and City Council. He has failed in his previous efforts.

Thomson held Seat A on the Boca Raton City Council from 2018-2022. After losing a Florida House bid, he returned to the City Council, winning Seat D in 2024.

Qualifying for this contest will run from Nov. 3-12. The election will take place on March 10, 2026.
