Democratic hopeful Susannah Randolph scored a major endorsement in her bid for Congress, announcing the support of South Florida U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel on Wednesday.

Randolph, who is seeking to succeed her former boss U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson in the Orlando-based 9th Congressional District, trumpeted the move just days after Progressive Caucus Co-Founder U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison also gave her campaign his stamp of approval.

“I am pleased to endorse Susannah,” Frankel said in her endorsement. “She has a long history of fighting for our working families, seniors, and women in Florida. She will be a great friend and ally in Congress.”

Randolph in return offered warm words for Frankel, a longtime state lawmaker first elected to the U.S. House in 2012.

“I am proud and honored to have the support of a woman with such a strong commitment to public service,” Randolph said. “I look forward to working with Congresswoman Frankel to ensure that our working families, women, and seniors have the best shot at success.”

Frankel will also co-host a women-oriented South Florida fundraiser for Randolph on December 20. She represents parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties in the 22nd District, one of the state’s most liberal seats.

Apart from working for the notoriously left-leaning Grayson, Randolph has also championed progressive causes for years as half of a Democratic power couple with former state representative and current Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph.

Randolph is running in a heated primary against Kissimmee Sen. Darren Soto, known as a more moderate Democrat who will likely enjoy support from the region’s growing Puerto Rican population, and biotech entrepreneur Dina Minning, a relative newcomer with romantic ties to Grayson.

Grayson is leaving the seat in order to pursue the open U.S. Senate seat abdicated by Marco Rubio.
