The Carlos Lopez-Cantera Senate campaign has talked a lot about the grassroots being its path to the nomination. In Jacksonville at least, that’s true.
Two prominent Republican Party of Duval County leaders are members of the CLC Grassroots Leadership Team: Committeeman Alexander Pantinakis and Vice Chairwoman Karyn Morton.
It’s important to note they are supporting CLC as private citizens, not to imply or state an official Duval GOP endorsement of Lopez-Cantera.
Also on board is Latanya Peterson, who was a member of the Lenny Curry administration early on. Peterson is best known statewide for being RNC State Director for African-American engagement.
At-Large Councilman Sam Newby, former chairman of the Republican Party of Duval County and chairman and co-founder of the Florida Assembly of Black Republicans, endorsed CLC in December; the grassroots were Newby’s ticket to a narrow win in his Council race that surprised everyone outside of the Duval GOP.
The CLC Grassroots team already numbers at 200.
The organization has over 200 grassroots and community leaders from across Florida.
“We are running a grassroots campaign for the race for U.S. Senate and have been fortunate to gain the support of so many grassroots and community leaders. Because of their support and because of their commitment to the State of Florida we continue to be able to share our message of less taxes, less government and more freedom with Floridians. I look forward to continuing to work with these grassroots activists who are the frontline spreading our message everyday and working to ensure we send a Florida Republican, not a Washington Republican to represent our interests,” Lopez-Cantera said.
Lopez-Cantera spoke at the July 2015 Republican Executive Committee meeting in Jacksonville, and it’s clear that outreach efforts like that have paid off.
