In a month of momentum for HD 11 GOP hopeful Sheri Treadwell, a key endorsement was conferred Thursday by Jacksonville City Councilman Sam Newby.
Newby, a former chairman of the Republican Party of Duval County and chairman and co-founder of the Florida Assembly of Black Republicans, endorsed Carlos Lopez-Cantera for Senate already this election cycle.
Newby, a social conservative whose support resonates through many sectors of Jacksonville, is one of the most generally liked people on Jacksonville’s City Council, and is a close friend of Mayor Lenny Curry, who has thus far stayed neutral in these races.
“I strongly believe that Sheri Treadwell will bring the kind of thoughtful leadership we need representing us in Tallahassee,” said Newby, in a statement provided by the Treadwell camp.
“She’s a wife and mother, so she understands the issues families are facing, and she knows that conservative policies will foster economic growth and opportunity that will create a better future for our area and the entire state. Sheri’s deep conservative roots and advocacy for basic principles of limited government, low taxes, protecting our children, and being a positive voice for our state won my support,” Newby added.
“I am thrilled to have the support of a respected leader like Councilman Newby,” said Treadwell. “I admire his principled, conservative values, and I look forward to working with him on common sense public policy initiatives that will serve our community well.”
Treadwell is the leader in the HD 11 GOP race to succeed Janet Adkins, in terms of fundraising and cash on hand, as of the March finance reports.
