Rep. Shawn Harrison has received enough signatures to secure a spot on the ballot.
The Tampa Republican announced Saturday he had received enough verified signatures to qualify for the House District 63 election. Harrison, who was first elected to the state House in 2014, is running for re-election.
“We’re excited to have reached our goal of qualifying by petition,” said Harrison in a statement. “It’s a reflection on how hard our volunteers have worked over the past several months and how receptive voters are to our message of having a representative in Tallahassee who puts his community ahead of politics and partisan games.”
State records show Harrison received 999 verified signatures as of Friday. He needed 975 signatures to get on the ballot.
Two Democrats — Lisa J. Montelione and Mike Reedy — have announced they plan to run for the House District 63 seat. Harrison will face the winner of the Aug. 30 Democratic primary in November.
The official qualifying period for state House races runs from noon on June 20 until noon on June 24.
