On Thursday evening, Hans Tanzler will hold a fundraiser that will tell a real tale as to his viability ahead of the Aug. 30 GOP primary in Congressional District 4.
The “Friends of Hans Tanzler” event host committee includes people who are being called “leaders in the community,” including John Baker, Marty Fiorentino, David Hutson, Rick Morales, Ed Nimnicht, Major General Gerald Maloney, and Ambassador Marilyn McAfee.
Tanzler, who scored an endorsement from former Sen. Connie Mack earlier this week, is emerging as the major Duval County threat to John Rutherford, the former sheriff who seemed to consolidate a great deal of establishment support hours after Ander Crenshaw decided not to run for re-election.
Tanzler’s campaign manager, Alex Melendez, lauded the host committee in an email.
“I want you to know that what you do is important. Just look at this co-host list — this event proves it. You are all leaders in this community. People follow you, they take [note] of what you do,” Melendez wrote.
As one would expect, the host committee has an old money kind of feel. Tanzler’s challenge will be using that base to appeal to Northeast Florida arrivistes.
