A big unanswered question regarding Jacksonville races for the state House: When does embattled House District 13 Democrat Reggie Fullwood get legitimate competition?
The time is now.
Former Deputy Duval County Supervisor of Elections Tracie Davis, defeated by Republican Mike Hogan in her 2015 bid for the top job, announced her candidacy in HD 13 on Sunday.
“After much deliberation, I am extremely excited to announce my candidacy for State Representative District 13. As a resident of the district, preserving priorities is critical, and my community and professional experience enable me to hit the ground running.” Davis said.
Davis, who has degrees from Edward Waters College (a B.A. in Elementary Education) and the University of North Florida (an M.A. in Educational Leadership), has been rumored to run for a while.
Why now?
“I have been in every part of the district meeting and listening to constituent concerns. Interfacing with students and poll workers on a regular basis, one gets to know and react to transportation concerns, educational policy issues, and matters of safety and security and business development,” Davis said.
The HD 13 Democratic primary includes incumbent Fullwood and Fleming Island’s J.R. Gaillot.
The winner of that will face one of four Republicans: Pastor Mark Griffin, event promoter Darren Gardner, Daniel Evans Jr. or David Lee Robertson
