Dan Bongino has launched a radio advertisement focused on Southwest Florida’s water woes.
The message? It’s time to take action.
“Fix the darn water problem. That’s right, I said it,” the Florida Republican is heard saying in the advertisement released Thursday. “I’m conservative Republican for Congress Dan Bongino and I want this problem fixed now.”
Bongino is vying to replace Rep. Curt Clawson in Florida’s 19th Congressional District. The district includes coastal Collier County and most of Lee County, parts of which have been impacted by discharges from Lake Okeechobee. The discharges have impacted local businesses, and are, in part, to blame for algae blooms that have closed beaches on the Treasure Coast.
Water quality has been an issue throughout the race, coming up during a recent forum hosted by the Women’s Republican Club of Naples Federated and the Collier Republican Club.
Bongino doesn’t say how he would address water quality in the 30-second spot, called “Fix the Darn Problem,” but said he would take a “no excuses” approach to the issue.
“As a former Secret Service agent, I don’t accept excuses. If we didn’t get the job done in the Secret Service, people died,” said Bongino in the advertisement. “And it’s this absolutely no excuses attitude that I’ll use to tackle our water problems here in Southwest Florida.”
Bongino faces Republicans Chauncey Goss and Francis Rooney in the Aug. 30 primary.
