Melissa Nelson now officially State Attorney-elect

Melissa Nelson

On Thursday, it became official. Melissa Nelson is now the state attorney-elect in the 4th Judicial Circuit.

Kenny Leigh, the write-in who had filed, on Wednesday told The Florida Times-Union he intended to withdraw.

On Thursday, the Division of Elections accepted Leigh’s withdrawal.

Nelson, who won with 64 percent of the vote, now has one less obstacle ahead of transitioning into taking over the office from Angela Corey, a larger-than-life figure who was known globally for various high-profile cases during her eight-year tenure.

Nelson tells us she is still waiting for Corey to reach out, ahead of the transition of power between the two attorneys in the coming months.

She is hopeful that communication will happen sooner than later.
