Local NAACP President Isaiah Rumlin was reappointed to the Jacksonville Transportation Authority Board this week, after being confirmed by the city council last week.

Rumlin was originally appointed to the board by former Mayor Alvin Brown in 2012; prior to that, Rumlin had been a board member from 1987 to 1991. He currently serves as vice chairman of the board.

“We are very pleased that Mayor Curry reappointed Isaiah Rumlin to the board of directors.”said JTA CEO Nat Ford. “The JTA is grateful for his commitment and contributions to the authority and look forward to his continued leadership.”

“We are appreciative of Isaiah’s leadership role in the community and dedication to the authority,” said current JTA Chairman Scott McCaleb. “Isaiah also chaired the Skyway Subcommittee and Skyway Advisory Group, which led to an initiative to create a Skyway Modernization Plan.”

Speaking of the Skyway Modernization Plan, some good news came through earlier this week.

WJCT reports a “cost savings modernization” plan will cut the Skyway rehab costs by two-thirds, allowing for the aging vehicles to be rehabbed, and potentially facilitating expansion of the system, which hadn’t seemed like a real possibility until very recently.
