Tallahassee bore much of the brunt of Hurricane Hermine

A Tallahassee restaurant is suing its insurer for denying its “lost business income” claim after Hurricane Hermine rolled through the area nearly two years ago.

Wahoo Seafood Grill, near I-10’s Monroe Street exchange, sued last week in Leon County Circuit Civil court against Southern-Owners Insurance Co. of Michigan, court records show.

The complaint says the eatery lost an estimated $28,000-$38,000 in business after the power went out from the storm.

But the insurance company denied its claim, saying the policy didn’t cover “business interruptions.”

Wahoo countered it had paid “additional premiums” for utility service outages.

A message seeking comment was left last week for the insurance company’s spokesman.

This is at least the second lawsuit filed recently in Leon County because of the September 2016 storm.

Last week, a Georgia-based tree company sued over an unpaid $25,000 bill for grounds cleanup after Hermine at the Capital City Country Club and golf course. The City of Tallahassee owns the property.
