State police union backs David Smith in HD 28 race

David Smith

Republican Florida House of Representatives candidate David Smith has received the endorsement of the Florida State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police and the union’s District 7 council in his quest to be elected in House District 28.

“We believe that his dedication to serving his community will inspire others to lead Florida in the right direction and we look forward to working with him in Tallahassee,” the state’s largest police union stated in a news release Thursday.

Smith, a Winter Springs business consultant and a retired U.S. Marine Corps colonel, faces Democrat Lee Mangold of Casselberry in the Nov. 6 election to represent northeast Seminole County. They each want to succeed Republican state Rep. Jason Brodeur, who is not seeking re-election.

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police,” Smith stated in a news release issued by his campaign. “As a retired Marine Corps officer, I understand the incredible commitment and sacrifice law enforcement officers make to keep us safe. I look forward to working with them in the Florida House of Representatives to ensure they have the necessary resources to keep our communities safe.”
