Duke Energy and the Florida Veterans Foundation have teamed up to bring some holiday cheer to Sunshine State veterans.
As the name insinuates, “Operation We Care: Holiday Cards for Heroes” will deliver holiday cards to military veterans who live in Florida.
The cards will have a personal touch by way of Duke Energy’s workforce, which crafted the cards.
“Our veterans have made significant sacrifices as they fought for causes larger than themselves, and at Duke Energy, we are proud to recognize and honor those sacrifices,” Duke Energy Florida president Catherine Stempien said.
“This year, with volunteerism limited by COVID-19, our employees accepted the challenge to volunteer in a different way. They eagerly stepped up to participate in ‘Operation We Care.’ Sending holiday cards is a simple gesture that can mean so much, especially during a pandemic.”
The Florida Veterans Foundation — the lead statewide organization for Florida veterans and their families — will handle the distribution side of the operation in partnership with 35 veterans service organizations operating in the state.
“It is imperative that we continue to remember these Veterans who make sacrifices in their lives every day to allow us to live in freedom,” Florida Veterans Foundation President Lew Wilson said. “It doesn’t cost anything to give them hope and encouragement and say thank you for your service.”
Everyday Floridians can join Duke Energy in sending cards to vets. Templates are available on the Florida Veterans Foundation website. Visitors are encouraged to download them, add a message and deliver them to veterans in their communities.
