Ron DeSantis suggests media ‘mea culpa’ for propping up Andrew Gillum
Ron DeSantis, Andrew Gillum paths diverged after 2018.

'What was presented to the public was that this guy was like the second coming,'

After the photo finish of the 2018 gubernatorial election, the fortunes of Gov. Ron DeSantis and his Democratic opponent diverged.

Andrew Gillum found himself in a Tallahassee courtroom this week, indicted on wire fraud and money laundering charges related to campaign finance. Thursday in Fort Lauderdale, DeSantis again got to take a victory lap over his fallen opponent.

“I would ask a lot of the media that propped him up whether they have any type of mea culpa on that. There clearly were a lot of issues there. If you looked under the hood, you saw it. But what was presented to the public was that this guy was like the second coming,” DeSantis remarked.

DeSantis and Gillum surprised many by advancing to the General Election four summers ago, and the back-and-forth went Gillum’s way for much of the campaign until the weight of ethical issues seemed to change the campaign’s narrative.

“Never has a candidate been elevated that way by media outlets,” DeSantis said. “Certainly in the last 10 years or so.”

“And I can tell you,” DeSantis added. “If I had not won in 2018, this state would be in much worse shape, and that’s not even a question.”

DeSantis focused on the question of Gillum’s ethics down the stretch of the 2018 campaign.

“In the case of Andrew, look, he has not been honest with the voters of Florida. I asked him in that debate, and the media should have been asking him these questions. … He says he’s not under investigation. He’s been saying that. He’s the only one who says that,” DeSantis said in Jacksonville in late October 2018.

“What did he do after getting that? He turned around and gave the lobbyist exactly what that lobbyist wanted,” DeSantis added. “To me, those are ill-begotten gains that he should not have had. And what he did, doing the favor for the lobbyist, is exactly how we don’t want government to work.”

“Never has a candidate been elevated that way by media outlets,” DeSantis said. “Certainly in the last ten years or so.”.. Not that I am defending Gillum in any way- I voted for Graham in the primary, but the hypocrisy of DeSantis’s statement. Anybody out there know how many times DeSantis has been “elevated, appeared, commandeered himself” onto FOX news or any other right wing media outlet in the last two years??

FYI, he is the incumbent Governor mis believer?
We are talking bout non incumbent candidates.
And yes, it is fair to suggest that he was elevated to the “chosen, savior” status by all.

Frankly, I would advise everyone to stay away from. It. There is no real gain, finding joy in anyone’s demise or commenting just is not how I approach it. Gov would be better off, but I guess you may understand how he could feel. Just saying.

Gillium clearly felt he was entitled. Maybe the media hoisted him. It is ironic though how this turned. Thank God for the 30,000 plus votes. The minority support on the school voucher scholarship program that he pledged to expanded and enhanced, which he did to minorities saved the Governor. Gillium was opposed. Good for Gov.

Thank goodness faux news & Trump were able to get Ronnie over the hump. A guy with zero name recognition was able to ride Trump’s coattails into office by the slimmest of margins. If that isn’t a modern day self made man tale I don’t know what is.

At the end of the day Ronnie only has himself to blame. Half the time he was in Congress he didn’t show up and the other half he was planning his next move by attaching himself to Trump’s arse. When he was campaigning Ronnie had all the charisma of a slug. Gillem was outgoing and personable while Ronnie was standoffish and antagonistic. Gillem framed himself as a hope & change Obama type while Ronnie chose the us vs them Trump route. And somehow that’s the media’s fault.

Busted Frankie m’s balls. LMAO Losers.

DeSantis won and it’s a known factoid by intelligent life, due to his position on public voucher, school choice for poor, minorities. Gillium opposed it, DeSantis successfully drove that message in south Florida. Total win, win. Hispanics and enough African Americans voted for him.

Gillium was a con and he now has the indictments to prove it. I wish him no ill.

Obama hope and change garbage. He thought he was chosen, entitled and yes hoisted by extremist liberal media.

Save it. You got a chameleon and a fraud. Enjoy getting ass kicked.

Frankie, come on. While I agree with your assessment of their personalities, anyone who lives in Tallahassee knew he was crooked as can be. On top of that, he had little to no experience. Even his most ardent supporters can’t name three things he did as mayor. He was given the kid gloves treatment by the media and it backfired.

Rona sure can kick a dog when it’s down. While I am not defending his indicted former opponent, I do appreciate the presumption of innocence in our legal system. However, Rona’s writ large general attacks on the media turn my stomach. Rona regularly appears on Fix Entertainment TV – in court, the network defended itself and Tucker by saying that no reasonable person would believe what was being presented as factual. Fix is the driving force in destroying America because Joe Lunchbox actually believes what is being broadcast as fact, not opinion or entertainment. So Rona, why not save your unkind words for Tucker and his gang of anti-American asswipes?

Florida dodged the biggest bullet by electing Desantis. It’s amazing how many tribal Leftists just can’t accept that Guillum was a trainwreck and how lucky we are that he was not elected.

Shame everyone didn’t dodge Trump..now the country is a wreck…and as usual the Dems can’t clean up the mess fast enough for you grifters.

WTF are you talking about? The country is a wreck because of Biden’s policies. Under Trump we were energy independent (=cheap fuel), had a great economy (CNBC’s Jim Cramer 2019 “The best numbers of our lives”), he lowered most peoples taxes (more money in your pocket), and he started no wars and kept our primary enemies in check (Russia and China didn’t do anything aggressive during his term). In contrast, Biden wants to cut fossil fuel use (gas prices started going up by February 2021, and doubled in Florida BEFORE the Ukraine invasion), is in charge of a wrecked economy because he can’t balance a checkbook, he wants to RAISE taxes (less money in your pocket), and under his weak watch Russia invades Ukraine and China is on the cusp of invading Taiwan while hassling Japan every other week. Stop drinking the tribal Kool-Ade and open your eyes.
