There are approximately 500 million tweets each day, according to InternetStatsLive.com. That means that, already this year, there have been more than 15 billion (with a “B”) of those 140-character-or-less messages broadcast.
Of all those messages, I’m willing to bet that few have been as snarky as the one sent by Sunshine State News’ Nancy Smith. Her jaw-dropping (and completely unprovoked) sideswipe at Lauren Book was about as uncalled for, unnecessary, and insensitive as one could possibly squeeze into 140 characters.
See the fancy shindig for @LaurensKids in Tally? In my next life I want to come back as Ron Book’s kid #ssnalerts
— Nancy Smith (@NancyLBSmith) January 29, 2015
Just to be clear, Lauren is kicking off her Safer, Smarter Kids Teachers Institutes, to roll out grades 1-3 of her foundation’s personal safety curriculum and train public school educators on abuse prevention and response.
Does Nancy not know WHY Lauren has embarked on this journey? Or WHY she is so committed to protecting children from sexual abuse?
“I want to come back as Ron Book’s kid.”
Really, Nancy? You want to endure what both Lauren and Ron have been through just so you can have what you have deemed a “fancy shindig?”
I don’t want to swim too far out of my lane here, but it seems an apology is in order.
After reading Smith’s tweet, I wish there had “only” been 14,999,999,999 tweets sent so far this year.
